today was the first iftar of ramadan 2020. in the past year or two i've gone from thinking of myself as strictly atheist to identifying more with the term secular muslim. like, i don't care about allah or whatever, but my upbringing and cultural background didn't exactly lead me to the standard western christian type of atheism (which, to be clear, absolutely sucks). i have a lot of thoughts about this but none of y'all deserve to hear them.
zucchini piyaju:
this is still not really piyaju. i actually had zucchini so i made
this.
cauliflower bhaji:
stir fried cauliflower with panch phoron, turmeric, and a slit green
chile.
polau:
i froze the leftover polau from
noboborsho because
sometimes i'm smart. reheated in the microwave and basically as good as
new.
tandoori-spiced lamb:
i found a small rack of lamb in my freezer, not sure how that got there. i
marinated it in yogurt + tandoori spice mix + lemon juice. i wiped off the
marinade before cooking and seared it in a hot cast iron pan on all side
before finishing in the oven.
soojir halwa:
i used
this recipe
because my mom wouldn't give me hers, insisting that i already know how to
make it. sorry mom, i'm an idiot and you do actually have to spell it out
for me. i made it with less sugar since walker doesn't like the super
sweet desi desserts. he said it was good but i think it really needs the
full amount of sugar to taste right. after cooking, i spread it onto a
baking sheet and cut it into diamonds after cooling.
