this is a modified version of my mom's actual dal recipe. hers uses onions in the tadka which walker can't eat, so i use garlic instead. this is a pretty bare bones recipe and i don't know that other people will like it unless they're already familiar with dal. it's also vegan? if that's a thing people care about?

honestly if you're white, you'd probably be better served by following someone else's dal recipe. this does not have the ~flavors you're expecting from desi food.
